Incubator Artificial Intelligence
ABdrone performs agricultural mapping with autonomous drones and calibrated multispectral imaging equipment. These are used for standard indices like NDVI for biomass estimates, but also for applied models like nitrogen levels in potatoes. The indices and models can be used for creating taskmaps that reduce the amount of fertilizers and chemicals while obtaining higher yields.
Together with IncubAI, ABdrone is developing a new method for drone imaging. Through machine learning, individual weeds can be recognized. Using this technique higher-precision taskmaps can be generated, saving up to 90% on herbicides.
IncubAI, the first business incubator in the Netherlands to focus exclusively on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, opened in Leeuwarden in September 2017. IncubAI is situated at the Kenniscampus in Leeuwarden. Lennard Drogendijk, director of Inqubator Leeuwarden and Ioannis Katramados, professor of Data Science at the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, see this new incubator as a necessary facility for the Northern Netherlands. “AI is unmistakably a future growth sector with an unforeseeable impact on life as we know it. The momentum is now to attract the talent in this sector that can become the future fast growing businesses in this field” says Lennard Drogendijk. “Globally, initiatives are being taken to facilitate start-ups in the field of AI, one of the fastest-growing market sectors. It is important to support good ideas and help entrepreneurs turn concepts into fast-growing companies" says Ioannis Katramados.
